3d drawings

yesterday i drew a bit. yay!!! they're not as interesting though, more Just For Me.

first one:

two simple incomplete drawings of a car. the first is head-on, with just the front headlight and general shape. the second one is at angle, notable at an angle that requires some 3d depth, with just the bottom part of the car.

i think this is a study? i tried to draw a car more uniformly 3d, and i think i did a pretty good job with how far i got!

i was browsing neocities1 and came upon drawabox.com. how is it? i don't know. it's (correctly) formatted like a course. which is intimidating!!! i gotta do work? ewwwwwwwww

but i realized that i think i'm okay at drawing a 3d box. so i tried my best to always go off of a box. if i don't know how to skew a shape, i draw a box and use that as a guide.

for instance, i didn't know how to skew a wheel for 3d, so i drew a box first, and then drew a circle that fit into the box. yay!

the back tire of the second car in the previous picture. the layer the said box is on is now visible, and the wheel indeed fits into that box.

here's another drawing.

another simple drawing. it's a weird low-poly car shaped thing, just the body of it. no wheels, windows, etc. it's on a line, sorta like a monorail. to the right of the car is a mat, and an incomplete body of some lizard guy.

i drew a low-poly car so it would be easier to draw, but then it looked like a cybertruck anddd i didn't know where to go from there.

i also realize i'm not great at all with drawing straight lines. i had to tweak the shape a decent amount because the lines weren't straight and i couldn't figure out the perspective... it was honestly pretty exhausting.

i'm drawing using a mouse. so possibly that's why? i've never understood why drawing with a mouse is bad, but maybe i've hit that level where it's gonna be limiting.

Ok car is cool but what about body?

drawing a 3d body is seemingly more hard because it's entirely round. how do i apply the box thing fully to it? not sure. i did try though with the head. looks too gumdroppy!

head shapes

drawing with various head shapes for some dino-lizard guy. some common characteristics are some zig-zag mouths and a slight overbite. one outlier is a more rounded head with a body. they're supposed to be in a spa, but besides the head, it's rather incomplete.

HAHA NO HUMANS. (you ponder what "image site" means)

so i'm indecisive on how to draw a head for my lizard-dino guy. or even what species they are, or color...

here i'm just experimenting.

overbite seems cool! it adds more emphasis to the mouth i thinks. makes the mouth seem a lot more pointy as well, especially combined with the zig-zag lines. tetrisk of tetrisk-lair.neocities.org gifted me some art of my lil guy with such a characteristic, and i think it's pretty cool!!! another artist i quite like, hyphen, also does this a decent amount. also pretty cool!!!

also, should the head be more rounded or more pointy? i'm still not sure.

the one with a bit of a body in the center is quite nice i think. i feel like i quite nailed it, but also, i don't know how i did that. i couldn't recreate it.

an image site's april fools

yes, e621

for april fools this image website called e621 did this thing where you had to draw your fursona to "verify your identity" so you can enable adult content. i think. i don't go on that website, but some people i follow on bluesky do, and they posted their drawings on there.

it's very cool seeing people post their drawings. yay art!!!

some people that i follow more in the non-adult space also posted their drawings, but in a bit of a "if you know, you know" type style. they didn't specify their drawing was from e621, but it's obvious to tell based on the timing and limitations.

what i tried for april fools

i didn't come up with an april fools joke to do yet, and i thought i could probably pull a decent joke with that.

the plan is to post some drawing that looks like it was done on e612. yk, like how some others are doing it, just implying it's drawn on there. a day after, post something revealing that it actually wasn't! probably in some unexpected program to add a bit of goofiness! hahaha!!!

the ethics are also pretty good. like, if it was true, no one would care.

to start, i yoinked a screenshot off of bluesky and analyzed it:

  • the canvas is 400x300
  • one of the brush sizes is 6px(?)
  • it has limited colors, duh.

so some program compatible with that. gartic phone seems good! it supports any colors and you can technically crop the canvas using some CSS. while it doesn't have a 6px brush size, as it turns out, the brush size effectively becomes 6px because it downscales the image when you download your canvas.

also, the background literally says gartic phone on it! i could do a silly reveal with that.

that's what i ended up doing! it was already kinda late so i didn't formally do it for april fools, but i thought it was goofy at least.
